The Daughters of Isabella were organized
in May of 1897. It is an international order of Catholic women
with 50,000 members from the United States and Canada, and
in 2005 one circle was opened in Japan. Our mission is to reach
out to help others in a spirit of Unity, Friendship,
and Charity, and to follow the teachings and rules of the
Catholic Church. As a member we have the opportunity to make
new friends, express our views, enhance our spiritual life, and
become as active as we wish.
Fr.
Michael McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus, also
founded the Daughters of Isabella. His goal was to
encourage women to follow the example of Queen Isabella of
Castile, Spain. She was a brave and honorable woman who,
although having suffered great personal losses, including a son
and daughter, fought to unite her country under the holy sign of
Christianity. She was referred to as “Isabella the
Catholic.”
